Putting it all on the line

Career change rewards outweigh the risk

Emma Mutu, Completing a Certificate III in Business, Hosted at Linde Material Handling, Wingfield SA

Making a big change

Changing careers can always be a risk. For Emma Mutu, though, the chance to do something she was interested in that offered a clear pathway forward, was worth it.

A young mother of two, Emma was working in healthcare when she decided to do her Certificate III Business Traineeship.

“I chose to take on a traineeship because I wanted to leave the healthcare industry as I wasn’t growing professionally in my role. I have been given the opportunity to grow and continue growing once I finish my traineeship which is very exciting for me.”

A new role and new challenges

Now Emma assists the Administration side of the South Australian Branch of Linde Material Handling. Her duties include: taking incoming phone calls, organising transport of products, raising workshop jobs and production requests, maintaining stationery supplies, filing, making sure visitors QR check-in and follow COVID regulations and liaising with interstate departments.

Just push through!

The advice she says she would pass on to anyone else looking at changing careers or beginning a traineeship/apprenticeship, is to not be scared off if it seems overwhelming.

“You might get a feeling throughout your first month or two here and there where you will feel like you could have possibly made a mistake in your choice of career path, but push through it and the result when you finish your traineeship will feel very rewarding.”

What comes next?

Emma is hoping to keep moving forward with her studies, possibly with a Certificate IV within the Business vocation. She hopes to eventually gain employment with her traineeship host, Linde Material Handling.
