Forest Stewardship Council Program
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a unique multi-stakeholder membership-based organisation that promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial and economically viable management of forests.
It is based on including the views of communities, indigenous people, environmental groups and industry in the development of appropriate standards for responsible forest management.
In Australia, FSC was established in 2006 and already includes as members a number of major forest product companies, major environmental groups, and community groups and it is working closely with aboriginal traditional owners.
We believe the open and inclusive nature of FSC will encourage dialogue, recognise environmental and social issues in how forest are managed and reward companies that achieve the highest levels of performance.
Our contribution will be used to start the process of developing an FSC national standard for Australia. This will involve bringing together a wide range of stakeholders to agree indicators for responsible forest management.
As part of our commitment, WPC has agreed that wherever possible, WPC Group will only use forest products that have been certified as coming from recycled sources or responsibly managed forests.
We are working with FSC Australia to improve all our practices and processes where they relate to forest products. In return, we have been acknowledged by FSC Australia as part of their FSC Supporter program.
